Samuel Smith is a Navy Veteran and a CRNA at the Richmond VA Medical Center. Sam has been an anesthesia provider for 20 years. Smith oversaw the Liver Transplant Anesthesia Team at Virginia Commonwealth University for 13 years. Smith has been heavily involved in committees, leadership positions, and presentations to the Richmond VA's Anesthesia Department and other departments system wide. Smith considers himself a work in progress, always striving to improve and do better. He is constantly seeking ways to innovate and move his department forward. He is a member and participant in the National Center for Patient Safety's collaborative effort with National Anesthesia Program to bring awareness to safety events nationwide through quarterly presentations to anesthesia leadership nationwide. Colleagues might describe Smith as kind, thoughtful, a novel thinker, and a capable self-starter. He recently completed a Seed Investee year in FY23 and Spread Investee Project in FY24 for iNET, where he honed his innovation skills and promoted his thought-leader abilities promoting his innovative approach to lowering greenhouse gas formation from anesthesia gases. This project led him to receive his Lean Yellow Belt and Change Management Practitioner certification.
